This was our first DTRS Family Picnic. Upon joining DTRS my family and I became part of a community of people who are not only involved in serving the community but are a community within themselves. There have been many events that we have been involved with but this meant the most to us. This picnic was for the DTRS Family. We are now a part of that community.
There was a huge amount of prepping and planning behind the scenes. All that shopping, chopping, prepping, staging and clean up afterwards made for an enjoyable day.
I certainly don't understand how anyone could have left hungry. Well...anyone but my 12 year old son who wanted to know what was for dinner that evening. My husband and I just looked at him and groaned.
The Grill Master and his assistants did an awesome job cooking over the hot grills so that we could all enjoy the savory meats.
There were so many people to see and some new people to meet. It was nice to put some faces to names that I have heard mentioned around DTRS.
The picnic went without incident until Carol Baum took on one of the tents. The final score was Tent-1, Carol-0. She walked away with minimal injuries, just a couple broken toes. Not to be outdone or left behind, Carol and her broken toes attempted the rock wall. Despite the broken toes she managed to get at least halfway up the wall. The going up part isn't so bad. The coming down part is really quite fun as long as you manage to place your feet properly once you hit the bottom. If your feet are not planted properly, you literally hit your bottom. This did not deter any of the adults who gave the wall a try.We all made it at least halfway up the wall. That is all I am saying.
The water slide was a great way to cool down. The kids had fun and I want one for my backyard. My son wanted me to try out the water slide with him. I was the only adult walking around like a drowned rat that day. It was still fun and made my son laugh. I am sure a few others laughed but they were kind enough to not let me see them laughing at me.
Several of the kids attempted to go fishing off the pier. I am not sure potato chips are an approved fishing lure but I don't think the fish complained that day. One young man almost fell off the end of the pier. He went home with a soggy shoe I believe.
It was a very scenic area. It was nice to just wonder around the paths. What made the day enjoyable was seeing everyone just sitting and visiting. There is no greater sound then the sound of children and people laughing and having a great time.
I know we are looking forward to next year. Thank you DTRS for giving my family some good wholesome fun.
Enjoy the pictures...Maybe I will see you next year!
